Anna - Louise Shipley

Artist Statement

My work often starts and ends with drawing. It moves through other phases, collage, discussion, animation and assemblage but it is whilst I am actively involved in making ideas and images that I feel consciously content and focussed.

In the past I have returned to sketchbook work, collecting information both visual and textual. The quality of any artwork resulting has been secondary to my need to clarify or resolve my concerns. This year I hope to address the aesthetics of my work and refine my practice. Drawing will continue to dominate but I hope that print, animation, curation and performance will feature. I will return to large scale works in a studio setting and collaborate more frequently so that a shared enjoyment develops in the process.

I feel less urgent to shout through my art and more inclined to whisper my thoughts into the world with images which are stronger and clearer.
