Drawn Out is a series of five island based events to support the national campaign for drawing throughout October 2008. It will consist of free workshops across the island that simply need participation. The work will be non permanent, destroyed by time, rain and tide, yet last long enough to be enjoyed and reflected upon throughout the campaign.Using the existing surfaces of building facades, pavements and beaches to focus on the act of creating.
“Drawing aids contemplation and reverie and can be an individual or private activity, small-scale and low-key. It can also be public and celebratory, large-scale, interactive and collaborative. Some of the most successful projects require only simple materials and a light touch of encouragement."
In Big Draw events, the atmosphere generated by people of all ages experimenting, playing, communicating and collaborating through drawing is evidence of drawing’s power to cross boundaries and bring people together in a common purpose of enjoyment. Everyone can join in, regardless of age or ability. Drawing is not merely technical skill, done with the fingers. Itis an activity that involves the mind and the spirit. It is physical, mental and emotional. It offers a powerful means of participation.”
