Lining up
Ian's work are all process led drawings on paper. Masses of drawn horizontal lines using a roller ball pen and large aluminium rule to build up large blocks of textural fields. The pen ink from the drawn lines creates an accumulation under the edge of the rule which gradually disperses itself onto surface of the paper, which results in a random marking of the drawing that can vary from one piece to another. Sometimes the 'smears' appear with some remarkable novel and unpredictable qualities. The outcomes of the process are varied.
Ian will also be showing some new smaller drawings that are incised. The incised lines make a very subtle grid-like surface which regulates the ink more giving a more technical feel to the drawing. The exhibition represents Ian's current investigation into his work.
