Street Art: website launch

Contemporary Jersey Artists bring art to the street

A group of contemporary Jersey artists will be out on the streets showcasing their work. Hilgrove street (at the back of Monsoon and Next) is to be transformed into a space for artists to animate, bringing life back to the street. This is a great opportunity for Islanders and visitors to see something different and to be part of contemporary art in Jersey.

The group of contemporary artist’s work can be seen on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th July from 11am until 5 pm on Hilgrove street. An evening preview will take place on Friday night from 5pm until 7pm.

The exhibition will also launch the new non-profit artists website www.contemporaryjerseyartists.com A website that aims to provide an alternative resource to showcase new artists and the new challenging artwork that is being produced in Jersey. When visiting the site you can find out about local contemporary artists, exhibitions and galleries, as well as read the artists blogs.

During the exhibition there will also be the opportunity to get involved in drawing activities that are open for everyone to take part. The work created during the activities will also become part of the display.

On display will also be information about JAM, the new Jersey Art Magazine that will be coming soon.

The group of artists showcasing their work have come together out of their mutual passion for contemporary art that can demonstrate intellect, concept and artistic originality as well as aesthetics. Taking the skills we’ve developed at university and over the years to create work that is challenging. I hope in visiting the work in Hilgrove street and the website that we broaden the public's perception and understanding of artistic practice in Jersey and encourage people to become involved.
